As part of the expansion of its Gold Buying Initiative, EDF is establishing Gold Trading Centres (GTCs) in Blantyre, Mangochi, Mzimba and Karonga. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an energetic and innovative individual to join EDF as a Geologist.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Manager, Precious Metals and Minerals, the Geologist is responsible for the accurate identification, assaying, weighing, testing and verification of gold presented at the Gold Trading Centre. The role ensures that only authentic gold meeting required standards is purchased while maintaining integrity, accountability and secure handling of gold in line with EDF operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct physical inspection and preliminary assessment of gold presented by suppliers.
  • Perform gold assaying using appropriate methods such as fire assay, XRF and other approved techniques.
  • Ensure all testing processes comply with EDF standards, regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Maintain proper documentation of all assays, tests, transactions and reconciliation of gold stock.
  • Ensure safe handling and secure storage of gold at the Gold Trading Centre.
  • Prepare and submit technical reports on gold quality and assay results.
  • Provide technical guidance to Gold Buying Coordinators and other staff on gold quality matters.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Mining Engineering, Metallurgy or a related field obtained from a recognised and accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in mineral analysis, gold assaying or a related field.
  • Experience in gold trading, mining or laboratory environments will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of gold assaying and mineral testing techniques.
  • Strong analytical, report-writing and record-management skills.
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail.
