As part of the expansion of its Gold Buying Initiative, EDF is establishing Gold Trading Centres (GTCs) in Blantyre, Mangochi, Mzimba and Karonga. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an energetic and innovative individual to join EDF as a Gold Custody Officer.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Gold Buying Coordinator, the Gold Custody Officer is responsible for the secure custody, storage, accurate recording and reconciliation of all gold purchased at the Gold Trading Centre while maintaining effective internal controls through segregation of duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and take custody of gold after testing, weighing and payment processing have been completed.
- Verify supporting documentation before accepting custody of gold.
- Maintain accurate stock registers and records of all gold movements.
- Store gold securely in designated safes and storage facilities.
- Conduct daily stock reconciliations and report any discrepancies.
- Coordinate the transfer and handover of gold to approved storage facilities or the Reserve Bank of Malawi.
- Prepare periodic stock reports and support audit and verification exercises.
- Ensure compliance with security procedures, standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Report any suspected fraud, theft, loss or security incidents.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Security Management or a related field obtained from a recognised and accredited institution of higher learning.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in inventory management, stock control, vault operations or handling high-value assets.
- Strong record-keeping and reconciliation skills.
- High level of integrity and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under strict security and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
