Dr Ted Nakhumwa

 

Dr. Teddie Oliver Nakhumwa is the National Coordinator for the Agricultural Commercialization Project (AGCOM). He previously worked for the British Department for International Development (DfID) in Malawi as an Economic Adviser (2008-2017), and at the University of Malawi’s Bunda College of Agriculture (now the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources) as a Senior Lecturer in Environmental and Resource Economics and a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Agricultural Research and Development (1997-2008). He has also worked as the Chief Economist for AHL Commodity Exchange (Aug 2017-June 2018).

Dr Nakhumwa holds a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics and a PhD in Environmental and Resource Economics from the University of Pretoria. He has more than 20 years of accumulated experience as a researcher and expert in social and economic development and has published several research papers in refereed journals including the European Journal for Environmental and Resource Economists and Agrecon (Journal for Agricultural Economists in Southern Africa).

Stella Kang’ombe

Stella Kangómbe is a non-executive director for the Export Development Fund (EDF) and a seasoned finance professional with over two decades of experience in financial reporting. She is currently the Manager responsible for Financial Reporting for the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) and has held several roles in the Central Bank. Her duties involve preparing financial reports and analysis, as well as ensuring that the financial transactions are accurately presented in the financial statements and that they are in line with International Financial Reporting Standards and other relevant pieces of legislations.

She also serves in Technical Standard Committee for the Institute Chartered Accountant in Malawi. Prior to her appointment as a Non-Executive Director for EDF she has served as a board member for FAWEMA and also sits as a member of the Board of Trustee for RBM Provident Fund and RESMAID. She is also one of the pioneers of the Forum for Women Accountants in Malawi.

Stella is a Fellow (FCCA) member, a holder of an Executive Masters in Business Administration and BSc (Hon) Computing from University of Greenwich.

Mr. Sibande is the Group Chief Finance Officer of NICO Holdings Plc, a financial services group, since March 2020 and currently sits on the Boards of Mwaiwathu Private Hospital Ltd, Eris Properties (Mw) Ltd, Kang’ombe Investments Ltd, and other companies in the NICO Group. Mr. Sibande holds a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from the University Of Malawi and is a Chartered Management Accountant, Chartered Global Management Accountant, and an Associate Member of The Association of Corporate Treasurers in the United Kingdom, with local and international working experience spanning over 25 years, having worked at various senior management positions in the NICO Group. Louis is privileged to have been part of the pioneer management team that was tasked with setting up NIKO Insurance Uganda (now Sanlam Uganda) and NIKO Insurance Tanzania (now Sanlam General Insurance Tanzania).

Fredrick Chanza

Fredrick Chanza is the Managing Director of the Export Development Fund, bringing over 15 years of expertise in public finance, development finance, and regional economic integration. He has led EDF through transformative initiatives in trade finance, industrial park development, and the creation of structured markets for precious minerals.

His leadership has been key in operationalizing the national gold and gemstone markets and strengthening Malawi’s engagement in continental trade platforms such as the Intra-Africa Trade Forum. Fredrick’s strategic direction continues to shape EDF’s role in catalysing inclusive economic growth and export competitiveness.

He holds an MSc in Energy Economics (with distinction) from the University of Dundee and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Malawi. Widely respected for his expertise in economic analysis, deal structuring, and public policy, Fredrick has contributed to several national and international publications on fiscal policy and resource management.

Mark Mikwamba

Mark Mikwamba has over 23 years of experience in Malawi’s financial services sector, with a strong foundation in investment management, insurance, and corporate finance. He has led major institutions including Old Mutual Investment Group Malawi Limited, where he managed portfolios exceeding USD 1 billion and introduced investment products that supported key national projects.

Currently serving as Managing Director of Old Mutual Life Assurance Company (Malawi) Limited, Mark brings deep insight into financial markets, risk management, and long-term capital mobilization.

As a board member of EDF, Mark contributes practical expertise in structuring investment vehicles, developing export-oriented financial solutions, and aligning institutional strategies with national development goals. His experience is instrumental in guiding EDF’s efforts to unlock new markets, attract private capital, and strengthen Malawi’s export competitiveness.

Mark is a CFA Charterholder, a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA, UK) and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Malawi. He has also completed executive development programmes, including the Management Advanced Program at Wits University.

Robert E. Mdeza

Robert E. Mdeza is an experienced executive with a diverse background in energy, finance, and corporate leadership. He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of REAA Ltd, a Malawi-based company developing green energy technologies aimed at delivering affordable and sustainable energy solutions across Africa.

Robert previously held senior leadership roles in the oil and energy sector, including as CEO of Trinity Energy Ltd, where he expanded operations into crude oil trading, power generation, and upstream services. He was also the founding CEO of the National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA), where he led the organization from its inception and built its operational framework.

His earlier career includes roles at Petroleum Importers Limited, Manica Malawi Ltd, and Mwaiwathu Private Hospital. He began his professional journey teaching taxation at the Malawi College of Accountancy and later worked as a Tax Consultant with KPMG in London.

As a board member of EDF, Robert brings practical experience in energy infrastructure, strategic partnerships, and private sector development. His insights will support EDF’s efforts to diversify Malawi’s export base, promote industrialization, and attract investment into emerging sectors such as renewable energy.

Robert is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and a senior member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (CA (Mw)). He holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce (Accountancy) from the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), and currently serves as an independent resident Director on the Board of NICO Holdings Ltd.

Tadala Chinkwezule

Tadala Peggy Chinkwezule serves as the Legal Services Manager and Company Secretary for Export Development Fund Limited. She brings over 15 years of legal experience, including 8 years as a Company Secretary. Admitted to the Malawi Bar in 2011 and as a Notary Public in 2019, Tadala is also a certified Arbitrator with a Diploma in International Arbitration from the African Arbitration Academy (2021).

She holds a Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratization from the University of Pretoria and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Malawi. Her professional development includes a Certificate in Corporate Governance (Advantage Training), a Certificate in Business Leadership from Clark Atlanta University (USA) as a Mandela Washington Fellow, and specialized training in Export Credit Finance, Investment Project Appraisal, Domestic Arbitration, Sustainable Finance, and International Trade Law.

Tadala’s career spans roles as Legal and Governance Advisor at World Vision International (Malawi), Legal Services Manager at AHL Group PLC (and Company Secretary for its subsidiaries), Legal Counsel at Malawi Revenue Authority, and Senior Legal Aid Advocate at the Ministry of Justice. Her expertise covers financial law, project and structured finance, commercial and corporate law, taxation, procurement, international arbitration, and governance.
She is a member of the Malawi Law Society, Women Lawyers Association, International Bar Association, Commonwealth Lawyers Association, and SADC Lawyers Association, and an affiliate of the Corporate Governance Institute (UK & Ireland).
