Martha joined private practice after Graduation from the University of Malawi-Law School some 19 years ago. She worked for Gustave & Company, Nampota and Company, Salimu and Associates in Blantyre. Having gained vast experience in private practice, she moved to join the Competition & Fair Trading Commission in Lilongwe in 2014 where she contributed to the development of competition and consumer protection law for 6 solid years as Director of Enforcement and Compliance or Director Of Legal. She obtained a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Eastern & Southern Africa Management Institute in Arusha, Tanzania in November, 2017. During that time, she attended numerous continuous legal education on competition law, international trade, arbitration and law practice in general. In 2020, she moved back to private practice and is the Managing Partner of Kaukonde Lawyers.
She held various positions in the law practice regulatory body, the Malawi law Society as an Executive Member and Honorary Secretary for over four years. In her time as the Honorary Secretary of the Malawi Law Society, she served diligently and gave numerous of opinions on the law for the public interest in very challenging times. She is currently the Chairperson of the Physical Planning Council under Ministry of Trade and has also served in other Boards for various institutions such as NGOs, Companies and Religious Institutions.
