An exciting opportunity has arisen for energetic and innovative individual to join EDF as a Legal Intern.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Legal Services Manager and Company Secretary, the Legal Intern shall have the following responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the management of litigation cases, including preparation of pleadings and various court documents.
  • Drafting, preparing and registering legal documents related to the creation and perfection of security interests, including mortgages, pledges, guarantees, and stamping.
  • Maintaining up to date records of all perfected security interests.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal documents related to contentious issues.
  • Conducting legal research to support litigation strategies and decision-making.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all legal matters and ensuring that documentation is complete and up to date.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution.
  • Be a citizen of Malawi and can produce a Malawian National ID.
  • Be between 18 and 27 years of age.
  • Be a university graduate from accredited institutions of higher learning.
  • Possess a degree with Credit or Distinction.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High ethical standards and results-oriented.
  • Admission to the Malawi Bar as a legal practitioner will be an added advantage.

The successful candidate shall go through a structured learning and instruction in the EDF’s Legal Unit for an internship duration of 12 months.
