EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: LEGAL OFFICER

Export Development Fund (EDF), is a development financial institution whose objective is to increase the productive capacity of the country through provision of finance, guarantees, equity participation and advisory service. EDF therefore invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to feel the position of Legal Officer tenable at its offices in Lilongwe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing legal advice to the Fund.
  • Drafting legal documents
  • Representing the Fund in courts of Law
  • Managing contracts
  • Drawing security documents and obtaining consent where necessary; as well as stamping and registering EDF security documents to adequately secure all financing.
  • Enforcing security held to recover debts for/on behalf of the Fund.
  • Conveyancing of real property for the Fund.
  • Supervising Property Management and deceased Estate Management

Interested applicants should be holders of a degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized university plus licence to practice as a lawyer in Malawi with at least three (3) years’ experience as a legal practitioner in a busy and reputable company. Those with experience in a similar role from financial institutions will have an added advantage. The applicants should demonstrate high levels of confidence, decisiveness, results-oriented, honesty and of high ethical standards.

1. About EDF

Export Development Fund (EDF,) is a limited liability company registered in Malawi as a development finance institution (DFI). Its major objective is to increase the productive capacity of the country through provision of finance, guarantees, equity participation and advisory service for the setup, expansion and modernization of viable enterprises in the medium and large scale enterprises sector. EDF now wishes to engage the services of suitably qualified individual with wide experience in ICT to fill in the vacant position of ICT Manager, tenable at Head office in Lilongwe.
2. Job Profile
Reporting to the Head of Finance and Administration, the incumbent will be responsible for directing, planning, coordinating and executing all ICT activities within the Fund.
3. Job Roles

  • Provide an overall IT governance and oversee all technology activities.
  • Formulate and execute short and long term ICT strategies based on the business plan targets.
  • Develop, formulate implement and monitor ICT policies to support business objectives.
  • Analyze business requirements of all departments and provide technological solutions that satisfy the business needs.
  • Provide hands on technical support on all technical issues with deep focus on strategy.
  • Manage local and wide area network and provide relevant data security and backup services to systems.
  • Develop ,formulate and implement ICT budget
  • Identify and recommend to executive management new business value adding technologies.
  • Design and facilitate training to EDF’s members of staff to ensure effective utilization of the available systems.
  • Manage system deployment, upgrades and support of all IT systems ,including servers, PCs, operating systems ,telephones, software applications ,and other peripherals.
  • Comply with IT audits and implement recommendations
  • Manage and control ICT service contracts with external service providers
  • Develop and maintain effective and efficient disaster recovery procedures to guarantee business continuity.
  • Plan and execute preventive or corrective actions to maintain high system efficiency levels.
  • Any others duties assigned from time to time

4. Requirements

a. Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, in the fields of computer science, Information Technology or equivalent. 
  • Certification in Microsoft server Infrastructure, Linux, Project Management, ITIL and or network technologies certification is desirable. 

b. Experience 

  • At least 5 years of industry experience in System Administration, Database Administration, Management Information System and IT Security, etc. 
  • Those with experience in a similar role from financial institutions will have an added advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of IT architecture (including networks, servers) and software (applications and OS’s).
  • Extensive ICT project delivery experience.

c. Skills and attributes

  • Strategic thinking ,analytical and problem solving skills
  • Leadership ,technical capability and good communication
  • Demonstrated skills in learning and applying new software technologies
  • Team player, quick leaner, result oriented and able to take lead
